Politico, March 8, 2019: Speaker Nancy Pelosi tapped Terri McCullough as the new chief of staff in the speaker’s office, “the first woman in modern times to serve in the role in a paid, full-time capacity.” She would replace Danny Weiss. Axios the same day: she would start March 25; previously COS 2003–2011; most recently No Ceilings CEO.
Washington Examiner, March 8, 2019: Pelosi said McCullough would be the first paid full-time female chief of staff “in modern times.” The Examiner noted Heather Foley had served Speaker Tom Foley as an unpaid chief of staff. Roll Call, March 22, 2019: the 50-year-old Bay Area native was returning Monday to run the speaker’s leadership office, not the personal office. Pelosi, in the Politico piece, called her “an exemplary manager, motivator and mentor” whose insight would “strengthen our Democratic majority and our institution.”
Those are hire announcements and a first-woman claim as Pelosi and the Hill press made it. They are not a finding that she commanded the Capitol Police. The January 6 documents are later posts.
